| NEWS: ROMOLA TAKES PART IN R4 DRAMA | ||
BBC Radio 4 is to dramatise Irene Nemirovsky’s biography of playwright Anton Chekhov in a production serialised over a week in November. The five-part drama will be broadcast in Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour slot, beginning on Monday November 3. Nemirovsky’s biography, called A Life of Chekhov, has been adapted by Michael Hastings, who wrote the play Calico, performed in the West End in 2004. His adaptation of Nemirovsky’s book will star Niamh Cusack as Chekhov’s mother Yevgenia and Dave Hill as his father, Paul. Chekhov, whose work Ivanov is currently playing in the West End, will be portrayed by Andrew Scott, who was awarded an Olivier Award in 2005 for his performance in A Girl in a Car with a Man at the Royal Court’s Theatre Upstairs. Meanwhile, Romola Garai, who recently played Nina in the RSC production of The Seagull, will play the playwright’s sister Masha. Thanks to Wes for the heads up! |

| HAPPY HOLIDAYS | ||
My favorite time of year - the end of it. I was going to wait until the New Year to change the site's theme but I'm impatient. I've changed back to cutenews for showing news and updates because it was becoming a hassle and making the main page way too long when I added news manually. Latest pictures will automatically show up - first five only. These changes will hopefully allow me to spend more time updating info pages for Romola's works and get the news archive built up. I hope everyone enjoys the website. I try to be different from other fansites; hopefully it shows and is appreciated. Happy Holidays! |

| ATONEMENT LEADS GLOBES WITH 7 NODS | ||

| ACTOR WHO NEEDS NO ATONEMENT | ||
"I felt very fortunate to play that section. Her dilemma is fascinating. It's so reflective of that age that someone would think so deeply about a moral conundrum. It's just eating her up inside. Briony is a creative person and tries to achieve her atonement through her work. She's living out the major problems in her life through her writing and it's only in her mind that she's able to actually to do anything as recognisably honest as going and delivering an apology." | THE BIG INTERVIEW: ROMOLA GARAI | ||
“When you do something like an experience that I’ve just had in this production and, in fact, everything I’ve ever done, you realise that your allegiance for something, the enjoyment that you have working on it, the pride that you have once it’s finished is almost nothing to do with what anybody else thinks about it. I’ve done pieces of work that people have hated that I’ve been incredibly proud of, and other pieces of work that I’ve done my best, but I, personally, haven’t been very fulfilled by, that people have thought is the best thing since sliced bread.” SOURCE: OFFICIAL LONDON THEATRE GUIDE |
